Haughton Road

Located in Clayton’s residential area and in close proximity to the commercial area, medical centre, transport and activity centre, the five level Student Accommodation complex consists of sixty-five studio apartments equipped with internal and external communal facilities. The design responds to the objectives for the transition between present day Clayton and the transformative long-term vision for the area and the broader community. The design creates a distinct and bold development intended to attract students with diverse interests and backgrounds, reflected in the elements and materials amalgamated.

Students are a diverse collection of unique individuals with a variety of backgrounds and definition of habitat, with the design a reflection of creating a stimulating sense of place for the diverse inhabitants. Primary design form collects student habitats into predictable arrangement, diverse and unique window shapes reflect student's individuality and sense of place, extroverted upper form expresses student's potential and unrestricted placement of upper windows symbolise the numerous paths awaiting students.

Predominately featuring brick conveys a residential feel, generating visual interest and offering a sense of individuality for each student in a complex comprising of more than 50 students. The design acknowledges and interprets the future possibilities arising from tertiary education. Featuring private spaces for both study and relaxation, complimented with communal spaces for interaction, collaboration and socialising.
