Within the bustling Burgundy Street shopping strip is the seven level mixed used complex comprising of 16 residential apartments for young professionals, including a rooftop terrace, all above an existing commercial tenancy. Strong design activation of the street level interface is created through the podium and the existing commercial space.
Situated on a thin north-south facing site, light courts were integrated into the building design to achieve desired daylight and environmental outcomes. Careful design consideration was needed to overcome the security, acoustic and privacy concerns of having a largely residential building on a main street with the use of tinted and obscure glass, and privacy screens.
Our architectural response was to respect this contextual rhythm with a simple aesthetic approach that integrates into the low level context of the existing surrounds, the changing and developing mid-rise, mid – density vision for the future of the precinct.
A simpler philosophy enables greater focus on detail and material quality. Sensitive to our buildings scale, we selected a largely monochromatic palette, with a focus on verticality in tribute to the dense urban streetscape and narrow blocks.
