Town planning approved

Somerville Retirement Village

Town Planning has been approved for the construction of Somerville Retirement Village, consisting of eleven apartment blocks specifically designed for retirees. The apartment blocks range between two and three levels with associated basements and communal areas spread across almost 3.0 hectares of land. The focus of the design will be the refurbishment of the existing heritage listed homestead which needed careful consideration in the final design.

The apartment blocks will feature spacious apartments, well landscaped grounds, communal lounge areas, lifestyle and medical facilities. Design needed to be mindful of the overall scale and height of the project within the rural setting, leading to careful consideration of the building mass, articulation of the building fabric through materials and breaks within the buildings.

Somerville is a township mostly of single dwellings, with apartment complexes not typically seen, to which this offers an alternative accommodation typology for retirees on the Peninsula.
