BLACKWOOD SPECIAL SCHOOL

Designed as a treehouse classroom that stimulates students’ interest, encompassing its surroundings and something for kids to rave about to their friends. A treetop learning space that is equally accessible to everyone and a unique feature of the landscape.

Inspiration is taken from the natural landscape and sloping site with a tree stump that exists in the centre of the clearing. Design concept reimagines the habitat found in a dead tree log and converted into human scale. Community engagement, budget and sustainability a high focus led to the use of recycled donated materials in simple construction techniques in creative ways.
