Redfern Crescent

A residential two-level apartment development designed to create a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) complex located within a neighbourhood traditionally housing single level residential homes with no apartment typology within its direct vicinity. Design consideration crucial to portray the complex as a single dwelling that compliments its setting, while simultaneously ensuring it doesn’t feel or appear institutional to its residents and surrounding locality.

Abutting three single dwelling boundaries, design is influenced by and integrates the contemporary and existing residential context and in parallel provides connection with the wide and open surrounding parklands. Articulation of form creates visual interest without presenting as a singular large mass and instead embodies a combination of complimenting characteristics.

Inspired by the existing low-level residences found typically within the area, the design features similar prominent roof forms complimenting the adjoining residences and providing a strong connection with its surroundings. Strong grounded masonry construction at ground level is balanced with a lightweight second level form incorporating subtle tones that allows for the bold, pitched roof forms to be prominent.
